Beautiful, talented and popular all-girl group, BlackByrd have released their much-anticipated second album entitled ‘Home’. This hit-packed CD follows the big success of the friendly trio’s debut album ‘Strong’ which achieved Gold status, received five SAMA nominations, and contained five number one hit singles. Already the album received two SAMA award nominations in 2015 for “Best Adult Contemporary Album” and “Best Duo or Group of the Year”. In addition, the album was also nominated for a SAMRO Wawela Music Award for the category “Best South African Duo/Group”. Most recently the band were nominated for three Wes-Kaapse Bokkies awards namely “Group of the year” (which they walked away with), “Music video of the year” and “Song of the year”. BlackByrd continue to make waves in the South African music scene with their professional and charming live performances, singing and playing guitars.

BlackByrd consists of Capetonian song-writer, lead singer and guitarist, Tarryn Lamb, her cousin Tamsyn Maker, also from Cape Town, who plays rhythm guitar and sings back-up vocals, and who was originally a dynamic award-winning dancer.   Most recent member, Axene, second lead singer and lead guitarist, Vredenburg-born, was the youngest ever SAMA winner at just sixteen, with her solo debut album “16”.  All three ladies bring different degrees of beauty, talent and personality to the trio, making for a dynamic cocktail with tremendous audience appeal.   Leader Tarryn Lamb, a graduate and stand-out student of the Cape Town Waterfront Theatre School, brings her vast show-business experience to the group, and has an amazing ability to communicate with her audiences, ensuring great success with BlackByrd’s live events which goes way beyond three gorgeous young ladies delivering great original music.

BlackByrd’s second album “Home” demonstrates an exceptional musical maturity and growth in song-writing, and musical and vocal abilities, yet still contains the beautiful melodies, heartfelt lyrics and catchy tunes that South African music fans have grown to love. Once again lead singer, Tarryn Lamb, demonstrates her exceptional song-writing talents, composing the majority of the songs, whilst this time having input from the other two ladies, Tamsyn Maker and Axene Chaberski-Loubser on a few of the tracks.   An added attraction on this excellent new collection is the song-writing contribution on four of the songs from Colin Vincent and Andrew Baird of Orangotang Music. Whilst Tarryn’s amazing vocals, the signature sound of BlackByrd, once again dominate the majority of the songs, this time she is sometimes joined on the occasional track by Tammy, and Axene who brings variety and youth appeal to BlackByrd’s established widely-appealing country cross-over adult-contemporary sound. The debut single and lead-off track entitled, ‘I Love You, I Just Simply Do’, was eagerly welcomed by radio stations across the country. The track reached no 1 on Jacaranda’s Kia Top 20 Charts where it stayed at no 1 for two consecutive weeks. The second single off the album titled “Better in the Morning” once again followed in the footsteps of its previous successful number 1 hits when it became their 7th number 1 single by topping the charts of Jacaranda’s Kia Top 20 charts. Their third single “You Shoot Me Down” also topped the charts at number 1. Their latest release “When I Think of Home” has already been play-listed on various radio stations across the country.

South Africans first became aware of BlackByrd when they released their first chart-topping single off the album, “All For Me”, which was aired extensively during Women’s Month of August last year, and again during the Sixteen Days of Activism Campaign against the Abuse of Women and Children during November/December.   This track (the underlying message of which urges women to be true to themselves, and stand up for their rights, particularly against the abuse of women and children) ended 2012 as the top South African song of the year on Highveld 94.7 and Kfm 94.5, and reached the number four slot overall (including all international songs). Their second hit single, “I Feel Good Today”, reached the number 1 position on the Kia Take 40 SA Charts of both Highveld and Kfm, and Jacaranda’s Kia Top 20 Chart, and has the honour of being the theme song of the SABC3 morning television show, “Expresso”.  “I Feel Good Today” was also nominated for a SAMA award in 2014 under the Kia Record of the Year category. The third single “From the Bottom of My Heart”, which features Craig Hinds from Watershed, also stayed true to the success of their first two singles when it shot to no 1 on Jacaranda, Highveld, Kfm and Algoa fm’s radio charts. Their fourth single “Keep On” reached no 1 on Algoa fm’s charts and their last single off the album “You’re The Reason Why” made its way onto Jacaranda’s Kia Top 20 charts.

BlackByrd is musically innovative with their interesting combination of pop, country and ballads. However, when they do functions, concerts and corporate events etc, the versatile ladies perform an amazing cross-section of a wide variety of musical genres to cover all tastes.   Included are medleys of hits from the early sixties, and other popular eras, covers of the latest crowd-pleasing hit songs, as well as plenty of material inviting audience participation.

All in all, they provide a guaranteed formula for success that’s proved itself over and over, wherever the BlackByrd girls take to the stage to entertain . . . resulting almost always in repeat bookings from extremely satisfied clients.   Numbered amongst their many valued clients are such heavy-weight corporates as Sun International, Tsogo Sun, Momentum, Bidvest, Pick ‘n Pay, Spar and Checkers to name a few. They have also proved to be very popular on major concert events such as 94.7’s Jo’burg Day and Kfm’s K-Day, the 702 concert as well as many high-profile events during the 2010 World Cup.  In addition, BlackByrd have performed at many outdoor festivals, Mardi Gras, Mayoral Concerts, Christmas and year-end functions, etc. etc.

They were also selected as support act for various top international performers like legendary British act Mike and the Mechanics, Italian singing sensation Patrizio Buanne and top British funk artist Jamiroquai, with concert-goers enthusing about their excellent live performances and clamouring to purchase their album at each show.

All in all, these three warm, friendly and talented young ladies have already proved that they have a great deal to offer the South African public, and have gained great credibility as a hard-working and interesting new force to be reckoned with.  BlackByrd are certainly well on their way to becoming a household name.
